About Enid

I am a retired teacher/principal who is certified in special and general education. For over 20 years my specialty included preschool readiness, special education interventions, and administrator for grades Prek to 6th. The rewards I have seen range from improved grades, independence, and declassification to graduation and employment!
Whenever I meet up with former students who ask if I was a teacher...as they perform their work, I feel blessed! Parents have written notes with newspaper clippings showing a struggling student winning a reading contest. Parents have called the schools to thank me for 'giving their student a chance'. My reputation has followed me throughout the 20 years. I'm not ready to stop teaching yet.

About the lesson

Hello. I'm a newly retired teacher/assistant principal who is eager to guide students through their education journey. I have dual certification in Teaching K-8 and Teaching Students with Special Needs. I began my career teaching preschool, then expanded to teaching high school reading, writing,math, and study skills in a private school for exceptional students. My path took me back to graduate school where I earned an M.Ed: Human Resource Leadership.
I began a 20 year adventure in an urban public school where I taught Preschool Disabled Classes, was asked to design a state mandated program to decrease classification and ensure correct placement when needed. The experience was priceless and successful ! After 5 yrs as a PIRT (interventionist) I was asked again , by the superintendent, to become an administrator. I completed 7 courses, a portfolio, mentorship, and passed the required exams all in one year while working full-time. The next 8 years provided opportunities to grow and gain confidence as a leader; in district schools for prek, kindergarten, 1st to 6 grades, and special education.
My philosophy of teaching focuses on an eclectic approach that may meet the differentiated needs of each student. I vow never to give up until the student reaches the 'aha' moment. I use my bag of tricks that comes from day to day working with students. I rely on hands-on, multi-sensory instruction, a sense of humor, patience, structure, and my joy of connecting skills with practical student oriented interests.
We would begin with mini lessons that scaffold to more complex skills. I believe I am the guide, the facilitator, who provides strategies, enthusiasm, support, and listening skills to take students on the greatest life-long journey they will ever have. Learning is fun, hard work, rewarding, and doable. Let's get started....all aboard!
