About CHERYL

Hello! I'm Cheryl, an educator with more than 20 years of experience helping students grow academically and build confidence in themselves as learners. My background includes working as a classroom teacher, interventionist, school leader, and principal, giving me a deep understanding of how to support students with a wide range of learning needs and goals. I have current certifications as a K-6 teacher and a principal. I have also held a k-12 Music certification in the past and so am available for piano lessons as well!
What excites me most about tutoring is the opportunity to work more closely with students and provide the individualized support they need to thrive. I believe every student can succeed when they are given the right encouragement, strategies, and learning environment. I take the time to get to know each student so I can tailor instruction to their strengths, challenges, and goals. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing students achieve their goals and discover what they are capable of!
I work primarily with elementary and middle school students, including those who need extra support, additional challenge, or simply a boost in confidence. Above all, I strive to create a learning environment where students feel known, valued, and successful. I look forward to helping you or your child grow as a learner and reach their full potential.

About the lesson

I am an experienced educator who is passionate about helping students build confidence and achieve success through personalized learning. Over the years, I've learned that every student learns differently, so I take the time to get to know each learner, understand their strengths, and find approaches that help them thrive.
My tutoring sessions are tailored to each student's needs, goals, and interests. Whether a student needs help strengthening foundational skills, mastering grade-level content, completing assignments, or developing better study habits, I adjust my instruction to meet them where they are. I break challenging concepts into manageable steps, provide regular feedback and encouragement, and use engaging strategies and technology when appropriate.
A typical session begins with a quick check-in and review of previous learning before focusing on the student's current goals. Along the way, I celebrate progress, build confidence, and help students become more independent learners.
What sets me apart is my ability to quickly identify both strengths and areas of need while building strong relationships with students. I believe students learn best when they feel supported, encouraged, and understood. My experience as both a teacher and school leader allows me to help students develop not only academic skills but also the confidence, organization, and problem-solving skills that support long-term success.
I work primarily with elementary and middle school students in reading, writing, math, study skills, and executive functioning.
