About Tim

I am an Engineering Manager, Principal-level Software Engineer and hands-on technical leader with extensive industry experience building and leading large-scale digital platforms. I have a strong track record of leading teams while staying close to the code - designing, architecting, and optimizing solutions that drive business impact.

Throughout my career I have worked across both startup environments and large organizations, progressing from hands-on software engineering into technical and engineering leadership while continuing to stay close to architecture and code.

My technical background spans full-stack and modern digital engineering, including React, Next.js, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, AWS, APIs, microservices and Serverless architecture. Serverless and cloud-native architecture are particular areas of expertise.

A major part of my role over the years has also been hiring and developing engineers. I have acted as a hiring manager and technical interviewer for software engineering roles at different levels, reviewing CVs, conducting technical and behavioral interviews, assessing coding and system-design capability, and making real hiring decisions.

That gives me a perspective that is different from a traditional programming tutor.

I can help you understand both sides of the table: how to become a stronger software engineer and how engineering leaders actually assess candidates when deciding who to hire or promote.

I particularly enjoy mentoring engineers who want to accelerate their career, whether that means landing their first role, becoming a Senior Engineer, moving into technical leadership, strengthening their architecture skills or preparing for an important interview.

My approach is practical, direct and based on real-world engineering experience rather than purely academic exercises.

As an experienced Engineering Leader and hands-on software engineer, I have spent many years interviewing, hiring and mentoring engineers across startups and large organisations.

This means I can help you understand not only how to answer an interview question, but what an actual hiring manager is looking for, how candidates are evaluated, and what separates an average engineer from a strong one.

For technical mentoring, we can work directly through your code, architecture, projects or real engineering challenges rather than following a generic curriculum.

Whether you are preparing for your first software engineering role, trying to become a stronger senior engineer, preparing for a technical interview, or moving towards technical leadership, the sessions will be adapted to where you are now and where you want to go.
