About Alex

I’m an English tutor and trainee teacher who loves helping students fall in love with great books and great ideas. I think skills help build confidence and foster love, so I aim to help improve students with their reading, writing, and critical thinking. With a BA and Honors in English Literature, I bring strong subject knowledge and a supportive, encouraging approach to learning. I believe every student can grow with the right guidance, and I’m committed to helping you thrive.

About the lesson

My lessons are designed to help students grow in confidence, clarity, and capability in English. I take a practical, personalised approach: each lesson is shaped around the student’s goals, current ability, and learning style. Whether we are working on reading comprehension, essay structure, close analysis, or understanding literature and classical texts, I aim to make the process enjoyable, achievable, and deeply rewarding.

A typical lesson runs for 60 minutes and includes a mixture of guided learning, examples, modelling, and practice. I focus heavily on teaching students how to think about texts, not just what to write. This means learning clear strategies, building strong analytical habits, and developing the skills needed for high-quality writing and confident interpretation of English texts. I also provide structured feedback so students know exactly how to improve.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts, Honours in English Literature, and I am currently completing my Masters in Teaching (Secondary). I have experience teaching young people, tutoring academic writing, and supporting students in developing strong reading and writing skills. My background allows me to break down complex ideas clearly and help students build strong foundations in English, literature, essays, and classical studies.

• University students needing support in writing, analysis, or humanities subjects
