About Shannon

I am a traveler and have been traveling through Southeast Asia for the better part of a year. I have also spent some time traveling through Europe. My goal is to see the entire world. :)

I am currently trying to improve my Spanish for a trip from Central America to South America, so I understand first hand how hard it can be to learn a foreign language.

One of my favorite parts of online teaching is getting to meet people from all over the world. I enjoy learning about my students' home countries and cultures. I also love sharing travel stories and tips with my students.

About the lesson

Hello, my name is Shannon and I have been a TEFL certified online tutor for almost a year. Prior to online tutoring, I worked as a kindergarten teacher and taught children with autism. I have experience teaching students of all ages, different types of abilities, and different levels of English. I love being able to help my online students prepare for the IELTS, job interviews, and learning how to have conversations with their English speaking co-workers or neighbors.

During our first lesson together we will discuss your language goals. As we discuss, I will also evaluate your pronunciation, grammar, and fluency. Then, I will create specific lessons so that you are able to achieve those goals in the amount of time that you want, based on your level of English.
There are three main ways that I teach my students:
Type 1: we will have a structured lesson, which includes me modeling the word or concept, then you will practice the new words or concepts.
Type 2: we will read an article, first we will go over new vocabulary that will be introduced during the article. I will help you with your pronunciation as you read the article aloud. Then you will answer some questions about the article to check for reading comprehension. After reading comprehension, we will answer discussion questions about the article. During this part the focus is on using the vocabulary from the article as well as using correct grammar while answering the questions.
Type 3: We will have conversations based on different conversation topics. Either you can choose a topic to list the pros vs cons, give your opinion about, or just have a conversation about the topic and naturally let the conversation flow.

I am also happy to proofread any proposals, practice job interviews, or help with any homework. My job as your teacher is to help you be successful and comfortable speaking English, so I will help you in any way possible!
