About Robert

I graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University with a BS degree in Education. I taught high school social studies for over five years. I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Sierra Leone West Africa as an English teacher. I also worked as the northeast regional manager for Newsweek magazine's education department for eight years. Newsweek education had a program for teaching ESL. I learned this program and conducted workshops for ESL teachers all over the USA. With this experience, I was hired by the international language school EF English First to teach ESL in one of their schools in Moscow Russia. I was given a second-year contract there. I also passed the international course for TESOL. On my return to the USA, I was hired by the Capital Region Education Council to teach ESL to adult classes. I also did private tutoring. I was hired by Odessa Language Study Center in Odessa Ukraine. From April 2014 to July 2019 I was in Ukraine three times for a total of three years. The school sponsored me for two residency visas. I have worked for three tutoring companies successfully teaching English to students from at least six different countries ages 10 to 70 years old. I have three children, all professionals. I have two grandchildren. I presently work part-time as a substitute teacher and tutor. I live in Middletown Connecticut. I am willing to travel up to 40 miles to give lessons. Lessons in person work the best. This is my preference and the best way to learn a language.

About the lesson

Lessons are built around student goals. I develop individual lessons based on those goals. I have worked with Ph.D. students from China who needed formal English, a 10-year-old boy from Russia who needed help in fifth grade in the USA, a grandfather from Argentina who wanted to communicate better with his grandchildren and students studying for international English tests. I have taught classes at Community College with students with at least six different first languages. I have worked with all ages, many first languages and many different goals. Lessons are student-centered. I love to teach and I respect my students' needs. I will research, study and prepare lessons that are appropriate, interesting, challenging and relaxing. I use a variety of material, methods and resources. Student goals and needs are my focus. Formal tests, writing skills, reading skills, grammar or speaking and conversation skills. I will meet your goals.
