About Ashley
Ashley is a part-time Lecturer in Architecture at Leeds Beckett University. He also runs London based design studio Store & Archive, working across disciplines such as architecture, image making and experimental fieldworks.
Ashley’s practice is process driven, often investigating site specific subject matter. He is currently redeveloping a small ruin in rural Portugal and working with local craftsmen to develop pigmented render using soil from the land.
Ashley has worked in architectural practice for Karakusevic Carson Architects and Cousins & Cousins, and has continued interest in exhibition design and curation.
Ashley currently leads a final year undergraduate design studio at Leeds School of Architecture. His teaching practice introduces students to cross disciplinary creative practice through both analogue and digital methods of experimental image production as a means to interrogate spatial concerns. Specific themes explore cultural vernacular, the ruin/ built heritage, locality of materials and local craftsmanship, the everyday, and sensitive redevelopment.
Ashley’s research is primarily practice based, exploring ‘the ruin’ through experimental image making and site specific intervention. He mediates between analogue and digital documentation to explore existing vernacular. A research based approach to built practice allows the reimagining and sensitive reinterpretation of existing ruins within all built projects.

Lessons are tailored to your individual aims. We will work across hand-drawing, digital CAD work, physical model making, and a range of creative techniques to explore the ways you can visually represent you work in the most impressive manner.
I have spent the past 8 years teaching on the RIBA validated course at Leeds School of Architecture, guiding both BA (Hons) undergraduate and postgraduate Architecture students. My background includes experience in architectural practice in London, and I currently manage an architectural design studio that operates between London and Portugal. Prior to my architectural career, I studied Fine Art and worked in various London galleries, which has enriched my approach by combining Fine Art and Architecture.
Throughout my teaching career, I have led students across all undergraduate years at Leeds School of Architecture. I have also been invited to the Architectural Association and the University of Westminster to critique and guide architecture students. Additionally, I frequently provide private tutoring to help students prepare portfolios for prestigious architecture programs in the UK. This diverse experience allows me to tailor my teaching methods to meet individual student needs and aspirations.
Recently, I returned from Venice with a group of students where we explored the Biennale and examined architectural and cultural elements of Italian vernacular. As a creative individual with interests in arts, painting, photography, and film, my primary goal as an educator is to develop critical thinking and independent, ambitious individuals who can creatively innovate to solve design problems.
