My degree is in Film Studies, from the University of Kansas. I've been working as a professional editor and videographer since 2003. My experience covers everything from documentaries and movies, to promos, trailers, TV spots, and web series, and I've worked with Academy award nominated and Emmy winning producers, as well as seasoned screenwriters.
If you need help editing: I can teach you the basics of getting around in Premiere, how to organize footage (a tedious but very necessary step most new editors overlook), how to edit music, create sound design, and how to assemble an engaging narrative.
If you need help with videography: I can teach you the basics of composition, lighting, and proper coverage techniques to give you more options in post production, as well as creating fluid edits.
If you need help conducting interviews: I'll share the secrets I've learned from conducting over 100 on camera interviews, as well as how to get usable, punchy sound bites.
The most important thing that makes my teaching style effective is active listening. I don't move on until we're both confident you understand the lesson, and I apply a your-hands-on approach as much as possible, rather than just showing you how to do something, that way it's in your muscle memory as well as your mind.
While I've really only had one student for specific editing lessons, I've helped teach students at Nova University in Davie Florida, and I come from a family of teachers. I'm patient, I care, and I'm passionate about filmmaking.
My rate is $30/hour; for travel over 40 miles we can discuss covering travel time and expenses at a lower rate.
