About Tom

I'm a classically trained flautist, with a love for jazz and other improvisational music - you can find me jamming around Melbourne a few nights every week! I have been teaching in Adelaide and Melbourne since 2015.

My broad musical experience allows me to tailor my teaching to a wide range of needs. I can teach to a standard classical repertoire, or we can work on improvisation and extended techniques.

I have studied with amazing flute educators, who helped me understand how the flute works with (or against) our bodies. Through breathing, posture, and building a good practice routine we can train ourselves to play with solid technique in a relaxed way. Playing music is already hard, and my philosophy is that adding stress and tension will only make it harder.

About the lesson

Offering lessons for beginner to advanced students. I can teach to AMEB repertoire, or world music and improvisation. I work best when students come to me with a problem that we can work on.

Happy to teach for 30mins-1hour depending on age, skill level, and needs.

I hold a valid working with children check in Victoria.

Tom believes that everybody deserves the space and respect needed to learn a new skill. He will be a wonderful teacher for anyone from beginners who are a little shy to members of the LGBTQIA+ community who are looking for a safe space to learn.
