About Elsie
I am a highly motivated and dedicated Modern Languages Teacher with fifteen years of teaching experience in different educational systems in different parts of the world, including Scotland. In my career, I have taught all ages, so besides high school students, I am also competent in teaching learners from kindergarten to primary school and university. Furthermore, I am experienced in working with learners with additional needs and applying different pedagogical and methodological approaches according to the learner's individual needs. As a foreign language teacher, my goal is to teach the pupils in a way that they enjoy studying a foreign language and enjoy communicating in other languages. I use authentic material such as songs, rhymes, different authentic text genres and videos which engage the learner’s interest, and I focus on the development of the pupils’ language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), yet I introduce them to the culture of that particular language as well. From experience, I know that little time is spent on introducing the culture of a language at school; however, it is necessary to increase the student's interest in general and crucial when studying literacy at a higher level. I am a high school teacher experienced teaching the Scottish curriculum up to Advanced Highers for secondary students looking to improve their grades and prepare for their national examinations. For people who want to improve their English, I have a master's degree in English literature and several years of experience teaching English as a Second Language. My teaching approach varies according to the needs of the student; yet, all lessons are student-centred and engaging! I use authentic material such as songs, movies and different text genres in the language. Furthermore, I focus on the ability to cope independently with unfamiliar words and to derive meaning from the context as well as tackling tests and examination questions in preparation for the end examinations up to Advanced Highers.
