About Sophia

Hey, I'm Sophia!
I loved science all through school before becoming passionate about maths during sixth form which led me to study for a maths degree. I can account first hand how much difference a good tutor can make and hope to patiently guide students through topics improving not just their knowledge but also their belief in themselves.

Having tutored for around 5+ years across a range of abilities, I have experience guiding students through learning, revision, and eventually exams.

About the lesson

When taking on a student, I like to get an idea of what the pupil wants to achieve. I start by assessing their goals and the areas in which they are struggling. After getting to know the areas that need improvement, we go over the fundamentals to make sure that the student understands the method to solve a question. Then we apply the method, and finally I try to stretch the student’s understanding with a range of applications.
I have experience with several exam boards including Edexcel, Eduqas, and OCR.
I tutor a range of abilities up to and including A-level.

I know Sophia as she went to school with my eldest daughter and they remain close friends years on.
So when my youngest daughter had disastrous GCSE mock results and after a difficult PTA evening in Q1 this year I knew she needed a lot of help and support. Teacher feedback was that she wasn't reaching out for help and she was very far behind. She was really struggling with Maths and the mathematical side of Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Sophia managed to develop a strong circle of trust and bond with my daughter and develop a forum where'd she would reach out and admit where she was struggling.
I'm delighted to say my daughter managed to achieve GCSE results in Maths and the three sciences 4-5 grades above her mocks and all above her teacher predicted grades which we were all delighted about and seemed implausible 2-3 months before her final exams and when I first reached out to Sophia.
I couldn't recommend her more highly.

I was struggling greatly at the start of her tutoring me. She helped me with each of the topics patiently, and with genuine interest in my success. I got a "6" grade in HL Maths which, if you ask anyone who knows me, is a complete shock and was able to get into my top university on my application. 10/10 tutor, would strongly recommend for anyone looking for a patient, supportive and dedicated tutor.
