About JINHEE
Hello! My name is Jinhee, and I am a passionate GCSE Mathematics tutor who genuinely enjoys helping students grow in both confidence and ability.
I find tutoring incredibly rewarding, which is why I have volunteered as a maths tutor for the past few years. One of the most satisfying parts of tutoring is seeing students become more confident and begin to enjoy a subject they once found challenging.
I achieved a Grade 9 in GCSE Mathematics, despite not enjoying the subject at first. I also achieved Grades 8 and 9 across all of my GCSE subjects, so I understand the challenges and pressures that GCSE students face. Having been in their position myself, I know how important it is to receive clear explanations and patient support.
I recognise that every student learns differently, and not everyone finds mathematics easy. When a student is struggling, I take the time to listen carefully to their questions and identify where their understanding has broken down. I then explain the concept in different ways until it makes sense, ensuring they develop genuine understanding rather than simply memorising methods.
My goal is not only to help students achieve the GCSE grades they are aiming for, but also to build their confidence so that they become independent, capable mathematicians.

I know what it's like to find mathematics frustrating—I wasn't always confident in it myself. Through my own experience, I discovered that maths becomes much more enjoyable once you truly understand the concepts, rather than simply memorising methods. That's the approach I bring to every lesson: helping students develop genuine understanding, confidence, and problem-solving skills.
My first lesson is focused on getting to know the student and creating a relaxed environment where they feel comfortable asking questions. I also ask students to rate each topic on their GCSE specification as Red (not confident), Amber (some confidence), or Green (confident). This allows me to create a personalised learning plan tailored to their individual strengths and areas for improvement.
A typical lesson includes:
1. Teaching new or challenging concepts with clear, step-by-step explanations, encouraging students to ask as many questions as they need—there are no "silly" questions in maths.
2. Working through GCSE exam-style questions together to build confidence and develop effective exam techniques.
3. Setting targeted homework to reinforce learning, as regular practice is essential for success in mathematics.
Throughout every lesson, I encourage active learning. Rather than simply explaining a topic from start to finish, I regularly ask short questions to check understanding and keep students engaged. This interactive approach helps students build confidence and ensures they fully grasp each concept before moving on.
I provide online tutoring using interactive digital resources, including Goodnotes, to make lessons organised, efficient, and engaging. My aim is not only to help students improve their GCSE grades but also to develop the confidence and understanding needed to tackle mathematics independently.
