About Gabrielle

My name is Gabby and I live in Scotland with my husband and five cats. I teach German generally online as well as piano and violin, both in person and online.
I love using my training to help people discover their talents and hone them. It’s always very rewarding to see students passing an exam or improving their future career prospects. Equally, it’s wonderful to see the joy of somebody progressing what they have always wanted to do, even if it’s a hobby. In fact, I don’t believe outstanding talent is essential, if learning a language is what somebody loves to do.
I regard language learning as something culturally enriching, which strengthens relationships and mutual understanding across country borders. I regard German
(or languages generally) as an essential subject in a global economy. I observed on the continent, that people would tend to learn other languages as a matter of course, even if this is not their forte and I would love to see us making up ground in the UK.
My background as a German-speaker began in my teens. My parents were high school language teachers and had friends in Germany and France. As a teenager I spent several summers in Germany, firstly at my mother’s friend’s former GDR residence in
Saxony-Anhalt, only a few years after reunification, the culture of which was still highly tangible, and one summer on a chamber music course in Bavaria. Following this, I studied German and Music at Keele university and latterly Osnabrück university. After graduating, I worked at two German schools in North Rhine-Westphalia. I then worked as a German-speaking CSR in the UK for Michelin, BNY Mellon and Urban Outfitters.
In recent years, I have preferred a home-based work life teaching German, piano and violin, and occasionally ESL and music theory.
I have various interests, including composing and performing music, walking and jogging, baking, entertaining cats, occasionally art or DIY, current affairs and church attendance.

I'm Gabby, a highly experienced German tutor with four years of online teaching experience. I speak German at a near-native (C2) level and have a passion for making language learning accessible and fun.

- Flexible Support: My German-teaching experience to date is exclusively with adults, but secondary school support is welcomed (with supportive parents).

Music Lessons:
As a music graduate (BA hons, as well as performance diplomas ‘DipABRSM, ARSM,’ and Grade 8 in piano, plus grade 8 distinction on violin), I also teach piano and violin online or in person. I can offer combined packages for families interested in both music and language.
