About Robert
I was trained as an economist with a heavy dose of mathematics. I worked as a consultant before transitioning to education in 2008. My courses attract over 100 students per semester and involve interaction with and counseling of students.

My first objective is to understand my students. This includes assessing their current learning position and understanding of the subject. Next, I typically seek to establish an agreed-upon objective for the course and to set expectations. I then develop and explain my lesson plan including the course or coaching calendar, identify the text or other materials, and explain how progress will be measured. My basic approach is fairly informal: introduce the topic, explain its significance and application, present the basic concepts involved and illustrate with examples. Then coach the students through some applications and diagnose their understanding. This diagnosis determines whether to revisit the material or move on to the next topic.
