About Ian
I’m a high school science teacher with a passion for helping students understand and enjoy science. I graduated from Salve Regina University with a degree in Biology and double minors in Chemistry and Neuroscience. I also earned my MALS from Wesleyan University, with a focus on Education and Human Development.
I have worked at Avon Old Farms for the past eight years and have been teaching Chemistry and Biology for a total of nine years. My experience in the classroom has given me a strong understanding of both the subject matter and the different ways students learn.
Outside of the classroom, I coach varsity football and enjoy spending time with my family and our two dogs. I bring the same energy, patience, and commitment to tutoring that I bring to my classroom every day.

My tutoring approach is focused on making Chemistry and Biology understandable, practical, and engaging. I adapt each lesson to the student’s individual needs, learning style, and current level of understanding.
A typical lesson begins by identifying areas of difficulty, followed by a clear explanation of the concept, worked examples, and guided practice. We then apply the material through practice problems, questions, or real-world examples before finishing with a quick review of key takeaways.
What sets me apart is that I am a current high school Chemistry and Biology teacher. I understand the curriculum, common areas where students struggle, and what it takes to prepare for quizzes, tests, and exams. My goal is not just to help students find the right answer, but to help them understand the "why" behind it.
Lessons are designed primarily for middle and high school students taking Biology, Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, or similar introductory science courses. I also work with students who need homework support, test preparation, or help building stronger study and problem-solving skills.
