About Marissa
History has always been my passion, and teaching it is what I love to do. I earned my History degree from San Francisco State University and hold a teaching credential in both California and Texas. Right now, I’m working on my Master’s in History at Texas Tech University, always looking for ways to grow and bring more to my scholars. Since moving to Texas a few years ago, I’ve been teaching at the same high school, and I’ve truly built a home there. I’ve been asked back for a third year, which means a lot to me because it reflects the connections I’ve made and the impact I strive to have on my scholars. As an IB History teacher, I specialize in Paper 1, Paper 2, and Paper 3, along with the Internal Assessment. My focus is on inquiry-based learning, helping scholars develop their critical thinking, source analysis, and historical writing skills—without just memorizing facts. I believe that any scholar can succeed with the right support, and I tailor my lessons to fit different learning styles, making history feel more relevant and engaging. Whether you need help breaking down source analysis, structuring essays, or preparing for exams, I’m here to guide you every step of the way!

As an IB History teacher, I believe history is more than just names and dates—it’s about understanding the past to make sense of the present. My approach is all about inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, and exam preparation, helping scholars develop the skills they need to analyze sources, craft strong arguments, and write structured essays with confidence.
A typical lesson starts with a warm-up to get scholars thinking, followed by engaging discussions, source analysis, and exam-style writing practice. I love using real-world connections and historical debates to make history feel relevant and alive, rather than just something to memorize.
What sets me apart is my deep knowledge of IB assessments—including Paper 1, Paper 2, Paper 3, and the Internal Assessment. I break things down in a way that makes sense, offering constructive feedback and step-by-step guidance to help scholars improve their writing and analysis.
These lessons are perfect for IB Diploma Programme students, AP History students, or anyone looking to build a stronger understanding of history and succeed in exams. Whether you need help with source evaluation, essay writing, or exam strategies, I’m here to support you every step of the way!
