About Sophonie

I am a dedicated educator and Johns Hopkins graduate with over five years of experience helping students excel in mathematics, statistics, and quantitative reasoning. My academic and professional background centers on analytical problem-solving and structured strategy, which allows me to break down challenging, abstract material into intuitive, manageable steps.

Throughout my tutoring career, I have worked with high schoolers, college students, and adult learners to master foundational algebra, calculus, and advanced data analysis. My approach is patient, methodical, and tailored to each individual's learning style. I emphasize conceptual understanding over rote memorization, helping students build genuine confidence, eliminate exam anxiety, and achieve sustainable academic success.

English

My goal is to make math and statistics clear, approachable, and manageable for every learner. Whether you are navigating high school algebra, tackling AP coursework, or working through college-level statistics and quantitative analysis, I focus on building a strong foundation and genuine problem-solving intuition rather than rote memorization.

My Teaching Approach & Methodology:

Diagnostic & Goal Setting: We begin by pinpointing where formulas feel abstract or confusing and tailor our pace to your syllabus and goals.

Step-by-Step Problem Solving: I break complex calculations down into simple, logical stages, illustrating real-world applications so concepts stick.

Guided Practice to Independent Mastery: We work through representative problems together, gradually shifting to independent execution so you develop total confidence before test day.

A Typical Lesson Plan:

Quick review of recent homework, questions, or target areas (5–10 mins).

Deep dive into the core concept using guided examples and visual frameworks (25–30 mins).

Active problem solving with real-time feedback and error analysis (15 mins).

Key takeaways summary and targeted practice recommendations (5 mins).

Who My Lessons Are For:

High school students (Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus, AP Statistics).

College and university students navigating introductory and intermediate statistics, college algebra, or quantitative coursework.

Adult learners looking to refresh foundational analytical and mathematical skills.
