About Thomas

After completing my integrated BA/MSci Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge in 2025, I am tutoring full time for the 2025/26 academic year. Since starting tutoring in 2023 I have hundreds of lesson hours under my belt with students aged from 14 to 40 across various platforms. I have a particular passion for teaching Chemistry, which was my specialism while at Cambridge, but am also available for Maths and Physics support up to A-Level.

Last year I guided 3 Chemistry and 1 Physics student through their challenging A-Level exams.

I attended a very large state sixth form college near to where I grew up, which I left with 4 A*s at A-Level and various awards including best-in-college performances in the UKMT Maths Challenge, Cambridge Chemistry Race and British Physics Olympiad. At GCSE I achieved six Grade 9 results, including in Maths and Triple Science.

Alongside my degree I have become heavily involved in outreach and widening participation work during my time at university, and enjoy supporting students through the sometimes nebulous Oxbridge application process, including Personal Statement consultations (for any science courses) and Chemistry Mock Interviews.

I'm also available to tutor University students in Chemistry modules - please reach out with as much information the specific modules and university course which you’re needing support with and I will do my best to help.

About the lesson

I craft sessions that are as interactive as possible for the student - I am not here to give a lecture! Maths and science are all about problem solving - not just regurgitating content - therefore we will spend as much time as possible looking at carefully selected exam-style questions, building confidence in the material and good exam technique as we go.

Online lessons available at £28p/h for A-level students and £25p/h for GCSE when booked as recurring weekly slots.

Available Monday-Friday daytime and weekday evenings.

I also offer in-person teaching at students homes in most central and western neighbourhoods of Southampton. Please get in touch to discuss specifics - lessons £30-40p/h for A-level students depending on travel time.
