Experienced Mandarin Chinese/English Tutor Chinese teacher at London - Richard

Richard is a great tutor, he is fun and very kind and it is a pleasure to be one of his students. In one session with Richard I learnt more characters and sentence structures than I learnt in a year at school. As soon as I started having lessons with Richard my test results went up and I went from barely knowing the characters to being able to string them in perfect sentences. I feel that Richard has a great knowledge of mandarin and will know the best way you can learn mandarin. That is why Richard is one of the best tutors/teachers I have ever had.

I had a six months language session with Richard and it was transformational.

Richard spotted key problems in my use of English such as pronunciations and expression right after our 1st meeting. Together, we built a solid plan to tackle those issues.

He uses interesting and creative ways to help me practise pronunciation and improve speak skills. Richard is also extremely friendly and fun to talk with.

I came to know Richard when I started my academic career at the University of Sheffield in 2008. Over the years, I have cooperated with Richard on various projects in my capacity as the Director of Confucius Institute at the University of Sheffield. Richard is very easy-going, and has always been very popular among people working with him. He is a righteous, passionate, confident and patient person with outstanding work ethics, which is so important in any job especially in teaching. He is also creative and fun, which I believe is also a valuable character in a language teacher. His Mandarin skills are outstanding. He fully appreciates the difficulty in learning a language from scratch to a high level of proficiency. More importantly, as a successful language learner himself, he has sufficient insight to take you through the same journey to excellency when it comes your language skills.

Richard has done a wonderful job preparing my wife and I for our move to China. He is not only engaging and enthusiastic, but effective. After just two lessons we were already able to read some characters! Highly recommended.

I decided to learn Chinese because when i was young, i was always fascinated by Chinese characters and how beautiful Mandarin was to the ears.
With english being my native language, i wanted to find someone that had gone through the same journey and who has mastered the language to the level of a native. Richard was the perfect tutor for that!
He constantly gave insight into the tricky parts of the language (tones,grammar,particles etc) and would skip over parts that are easy for english speakers to grasp- Something where native Chinese speakers may not be able to do so well at.
Richard is extremely knowledgable, kind, patient and clearly has the gift for making learning fun. I was able to relate extremely well with him and he personalises and designs lessons around to what i need. He is very approachable and we had a great time conversing and reading about a wife range of topics such as Chinese stories, idioms and daily life.
I would definitely recommend him first to all my friends and family!
