About Robert
Hi! I'm Robby. I've been teaching college and graduate-level math for more than six years now! I graduated from University of Chicago in Mathematics, and I am currently pursuing my PhD in Theoretical Computer Science at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Over the course of my career I have taught a wide variety of students with a wide variety of backgrounds -- graduate and undergraduate, pure and applied, and in a wide range of subjects: math, computer science, physics, economics, and even linguistics. I can help you dissect problems and work through formal proofs step-by-step, whether you're taking your first discrete math course or you're three years into a math major trying to navigate the abstractions of algebraic topology.

I approach teaching by trying to convey an intuitive understanding of the subject matter to my students -- this means working through lots of examples and focusing on geometric and diagrammatic reasoning. Not only does this make it more likely that students will remember how to solve straightforward problems in the subject they have been taught, it also means that students will be able to tackle problems in different areas by modifying the solution strategies they have learned. Formulas have little meaning when they are just strings of symbols that you've memorized; they have much more meaning if you understand how to derive them and have a sense of what problems to apply them to.

$50/hr is my base rate. If you require assistance in an advanced graduate-level topic which requires me to do additional research, my rates may go up depending on the off-clock time commitment.
