I majored in linguistics and translation, and received my M.A. in linguistics. This included field work, sociolinguistics and anthropology.

I earned a B.A. in Christian ministries, with minors in music and languages. I also took classes in education and counseling.

MODESTO JUNIOR COLLEGE, MODESTO, CA (A.S)
I studied math from algebra through calculus, as well as English, Spanish, computers, agriculture and music. I got an A.S. degree in agricultural science.

EXPERIENCE
MATH AND ENGLISH TEACHER/TUTOR Nuturing Wisdom Agency, Boyd’s Tutoring, Terra Marin school, 2017-present.
I tutored Math, English, test-prep and chess in several cities, most recently in San Francisco for the past 5 years. I have worked with students in the Bay Area from pre-school to first year college in the subjects of Math, English and test-prep. I have worked with autistic, ADHD, ADD, and advanced and exceptional students. We have met at their schools as well as in their homes and libraries. Group size has ranged from 1-6 in tutoring, and 1-12 teaching.

I like to meet students where they are and challenge them to reach their potential. I use various textbooks and methods (CP/M, AoPS, Flexbooks, IXL, YouTube, Khan Academy), online resources, apps and games to make math interesting and fun as well as relating it to practical life. I ask my students to focus, work hard, and be honest; and I promise the same in return. My goal is to help the student learn the basics and then move into more advanced math confidently. I also make long-lasting friendships with many of them.

Most of my tutoring has been with 3-8th grade students, and my teaching with 5-8th grade students. I have consistently helped them succeed in their classes, and achieve higher scores in the SSAT, ISEE, HSPT, SAT, PSAT and other tests, some going from 50-60 percentile scores to 70-90 and above. Several have achieved 97-99 percentile scores.

I am easy to work with, calming, friendly, patient, friendly, honest, and “focused-but-fun”! I would love to teach/tutor/mentor your child and help him or her achieve more of their full potential!

I taught, mentored, tutored, and trained students in various countries in Math, English, Spanish, Logic, translation and computer work. I taught ESL at Miami U for a year, and tutored students in Math and English there. I have home-schooled four children in Math, English and Music. I served as an on-call computer tutor, repair guy and trouble shooter for PC’s and in-house software.
My passions and interests are wide: math, English, music, sports, chess, languages and problem solving!

COMMUNICATION skills
I have taught classes in Math, English, ESL, computers, translation, song writing, guitar, audio dubbing and video translation. I have always had good feedback on my communication skills and easy to understand delivery and style. I relate well to parents, keeping them informed of progress and obstacles. Recently, due to COVID, all my teaching and tutoring has been done using Zoom, Skype or Team Viewer. This is more challenging, but has still been successful. I have good rapport and communication with all ages and skill levels, including young children and absolute beginners. Some call me the “child-whisper.”
