About Melissa

I genuinely enjoy seeing the moment a student begins to realize, “I can actually do this.”

I’m naturally patient, approachable and encouraging, and I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, getting things wrong and trying again without feeling judged or embarrassed.

Over the years, I’ve helped students move from marks around 40 to 50% into the 70 to 90% range. Every student is different and results will vary, but seeing a student become more confident in their own ability and proud of their progress is one of the most rewarding parts of tutoring for me.

I take my responsibility as a tutor seriously and bring a professional, reliable and committed approach to every student I work with. At the same time, I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable with the person teaching them and know that person genuinely wants to see them succeed.

About the lesson

With a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and several years of experience tutoring secondary school students, my strength is taking Maths that feels complicated or intimidating and making it simple, relatable and easier to understand.

I focus on understanding rather than memorising. When a student is struggling, I look for the gap underneath the problem, break the concept into manageable steps and connect it to something they already understand. Once the foundation makes sense, we build from there.

We then practise applying that understanding to different types of problems. My goal is for students to reach the point where they can look at an unfamiliar question, understand what it is asking, recognise which method to use and confidently solve it for themselves.

Lessons are tailored to each student and typically last 60 minutes. Depending on their needs, we may focus on:

• Filling gaps in foundational knowledge
• Making difficult concepts easier to understand
• Guided practice and independent problem-solving
• Homework and schoolwork support
• Test, exam and revision preparation

I tutor Maths up to GCSE/IGCSE level and adapt each lesson to the student’s pace, needs and goals.
