About Jay

I am a Maths and Philosophy graduate from the University of York with over five years of tutoring experience. I’ve helped students of all ages, especially those preparing for GCSE and A level Maths: to grow in confidence, strengthen their understanding, and achieve their goals.

I know that Maths can sometimes feel intimidating, but I pride myself on creating lessons that are clear, approachable, and tailored to the individual. I focus on building a strong foundation, showing how different concepts connect together, and guiding students through problems step by step until they feel confident solving them independently.

I’m passionate about helping students unlock their potential, not only by improving their grades but also by giving them skills that last beyond the exam. My approach is supportive, patient, and professional, designed to make Maths both understandable and rewarding.

About the lesson

I believe Maths is best learned through understanding and application, not just memorisation. My lessons focus on building confidence, identifying and rectifying weaknesses, and showing students how different concepts connect together across topics. This helps students see the bigger picture, making Maths more intuitive and easier to apply in exams.

I tailor each session to the student’s needs, whether that means reinforcing foundations, stretching to higher-level problem-solving, or working through exam-style questions.

Lesson Structure:

Lessons are typically 1 hour long, though I can adjust to shorter or longer sessions depending on what works best for the student. My style is interactive, supportive, and always adapted to the individual’s pace.

Who I Teach:

I teach students of all ages, but my lessons are especially tailored to GCSE and A level Maths students who want to boost confidence, sharpen exam technique, and achieve their target grades.
