About Jesse

I am a dedicated and experienced educator with a strong foundation in English Language Arts and a deep commitment to student growth. I hold a Master’s degree in Secondary ELA from American University and have multiple years of experience teaching and co-teaching in rigorous, diverse classroom settings. My work has centered on helping students strengthen their reading, writing, research, and critical thinking skills while building confidence in their own voices.

Professionalism, preparation, and care are at the heart of my practice. I approach tutoring with the same intentionality I bring to the classroom: clear goals, thoughtful planning, and a respectful, supportive learning environment. I take my responsibility to students seriously and believe trust is built through consistency, transparency, and follow-through.

One of my core values as an educator is meeting students where they are. I am highly adaptable and responsive, adjusting my instruction to meet individual needs while still maintaining high expectations. I believe students rise to challenges when they are given the right tools, clear guidance, and encouragement along the way. My students know that I am invested in their success and that their effort, questions, and ideas are always welcome.

Above all, I strive to create a learning space that feels structured, engaging, and affirming. Students and families can expect professionalism, clear communication, and a tutor who is genuinely committed to helping learners grow, not just academically, but in confidence and independence as well

I use a flexible, student-centered teaching style that prioritizes encouragement, clarity, and meaningful engagement. I believe students should have abundant opportunities to show what they know in ways that feel authentic to them. This means offering multiple ways to express understanding—through writing, discussion, creative projects, visuals, or multimedia—rather than relying on a single format. I model skills clearly, break complex tasks into manageable steps, and provide ongoing feedback so students feel supported without feeling overwhelmed.

A typical lesson begins with a brief check-in, where I take time to understand how the student is feeling and what they need that day. From there, we review goals and dive into focused instruction tailored to the student’s immediate priorities. I often model a skill first, practice it together, and then support the student as they apply it independently. Lessons are structured but intentionally flexible, allowing space to slow down, ask questions, or explore ideas more deeply. I always end sessions with reflection and encouragement, so students leave knowing what they accomplished and what comes next.

What truly sets me apart is my adaptability and my belief in students’ creative and intellectual potential. I am constantly adjusting my teaching to challenge students while also giving them the tools they need to succeed. For example, in a recent research unit on major milestones in the civil rights movement, I provided students with templates and models that allowed them to present their learning through song, art, and video, in addition to traditional writing. This approach helped students feel empowered, invested, and proud of their work. I believe strong educators are always learning alongside their students.
