About Leslie
With over 26 years of experience teaching at the middle school level, I am dedicated to creating a supportive and individualized learning environment tailored to each student's unique needs. I hold a bachelor's degree in Elementary/Special Education and a master's degree as a Reading Specialist from Youngstown State University. These qualifications, combined with my extensive experience, enable me to effectively teach a variety of subjects, including English Language Arts (ELA), Math, Science, and Social Studies.
My teaching method focuses on differentiated instruction, incorporating interactive activities and continuous assessment to ensure that lessons are both engaging and effective. A typical lesson plan in my fifth and sixth-grade ELA classes begins with a review of previously covered material, followed by the introduction of new concepts through direct instruction and multimedia resources. Students then participate in group activities or discussions to apply their new knowledge, and complete independent tasks that allow me to assess their understanding and provide targeted feedback.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to adapt to different learning styles and needs, ensuring that each student receives personalized attention. I am patient and supportive, dedicated to helping all students achieve academic success and build confidence, especially those facing learning challenges.
My lessons are designed for middle school students, particularly those in fifth and sixth grades. They are ideal for students who need additional support in ELA, those preparing to transition into middle school, or anyone looking to strengthen their foundational skills in reading, writing, and comprehension. Whether in a traditional classroom setting, small group instruction, or one-on-one tutoring sessions, my goal is to foster a positive and productive learning environment for all my students.

My teaching method is centered around providing individualized and supportive instruction that adapts to the unique learning styles and needs of each student. I employ a variety of techniques to ensure that my lessons are engaging and effective, including differentiated instruction, interactive activities, and continuous assessment to monitor progress.
A typical lesson plan in my fifth and sixth-grade English Language Arts (ELA) classes includes a combination of direct instruction, guided practice, and independent work. I begin with a brief review of previous material to reinforce learning, followed by the introduction of new concepts through interactive and multimedia resources. Students then engage in group activities or discussions to apply what they have learned, and finally, they complete independent tasks that allow me to assess their understanding and provide targeted feedback.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my extensive experience—over 26 years of teaching at the middle school level—and my dual qualifications in Elementary/Special Education and Reading Specialization. This background enables me to effectively teach a wide range of subjects, including Math, Science, and Social Studies, in addition to ELA. My patient and supportive teaching approach ensures that all students, regardless of their learning challenges, can succeed.
My lessons are designed for middle school students, particularly those in fifth and sixth grades. They are ideal for students who need extra support in ELA, those transitioning into middle school, or anyone seeking to strengthen their foundational skills in reading, writing, and comprehension. Whether in a traditional classroom setting, small group instruction, or one-on-one tutoring sessions, my goal is to help each student achieve academic success and confidence.
