About COURTNEY

I have been writing music for 10+ years. I currently release music and make it on Ableton. I can take you through a track from writing to release. One of my favorite hobbies is analyzing music production on popular songs when I'm out and about.

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

When I was 14 I discovered My Chemical Romance. They really spoke to me because they spoke about a lot of subject matter that I had been dealing with. I started singing along to their albums and never stopped.
  • Is there a particular type music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

I've actually gotten into dark phonk recently, which is mostly instrumental with some vocal samples. It's super easy to zone out or in to.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

I go pretty deep into music production techniques that show complex sound design, automation and mixing.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

Harp because it has 47 strings and that would be evil to tune.
  • What are your keys to success?

Meet people on their level and always believe in the best for them.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Freddie Mercury. He was a vocal Powerhouse and an incredible songwriter.
Gerard Way. He has a very special approach to so great that is highly conceptual and he is a pro at tying that in with his vocal skill.
Deadmau5. I honestly would just like a peek into his brain and his production skills, specifically with sound design.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

When I started Music School I wasn't the most talented, but I was for sure one of the smartest. Let me tell you why. I did not let people get me down when they told me that I couldn't sing or play music, because I believed that hardwork would outweigh Talent. Now when I look back at my level of success versus many of the students that I worked with, I am more skilled and have enjoyed a longer career than them.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I think my level of nerdiness and all around knowledge in so many areas make me a Superprof. Music is highly collaborative and as such the best way to understand music as a whole is to understand everyone's part in it.
