About Jonathan

My name is Jonathan Hodges, and I am a multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and teaching artist based in Chicago, IL. I currently teach violin at The People’s Music School, coach chamber music for the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras, and teach privately throughout Chicago. In addition to my work as a teacher, I have released 8 studio albums with my project/band Bomethius.

I offer lessons for the following instruments and disciplines: violin, guitar, piano, songwriting, and music theory.

I have taught music for over a decade, at all levels, and to all ages. Whether you're starting lessons for the first time, looking for a new teacher, or returning to musical instruction after some time away, I would love to have the opportunity to work with you. Don't hesitate to reach out and introduce yourself so we can schedule our first lesson!

I've taught long enough to know that no two students are alike, and that no two students share the same goals. Some students simply want an outlet, to write a song, to learn a piece they have always loved, to learn more about music, and others want to prepare for performances, competitions, auditions, etc. Because musical instruction can often awaken intense expectations and even traumatic memories, especially for adults returning to instruction after time away from the craft, I try to give my students the freedom to guide our work together. From our first lesson forward, my goal is to help you accomplish your goals.
