About Reanka

Hello, I’m Reanka Chatterjee — a devoted Odissi dancer and MBA graduate with a lifelong passion for classical dance. My journey in Odissi began when I was just three years old, under the esteemed guidance of my gurus, Poushali Mukherjee and Nandini Ghoshal. Training with such renowned teachers has given me a strong foundation in Odissi’s rich techniques, aesthetics, and spirituality, instilling in me both discipline and a deep respect for this ancient art form.

With over 20 years of experience as an Odissi dancer, I have honed my skills through rigorous practice and continuous learning, striving to uphold the authenticity and beauty of this classical dance. My background as an MBA graduate further shapes my approach as a teacher. It has taught me to approach each class with professionalism, attention to detail, and a focus on quality that helps ensure a meaningful, structured learning experience for all my students.

In my classes, I blend the traditional Guru-Shishya (teacher-student) approach with a personalized, supportive environment, creating a space where students feel inspired to explore and grow. My mission is to help each student connect with the grace, rhythm, and storytelling inherent in Odissi, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for this timeless art.

Odissi Dance Classes with Reanka : Traditional Techniques with a Modern Touch.

My classes are designed for anyone passionate about learning Odissi — from school children and college students to adults of all levels. With over 20 years of experience in classical Odissi dance, I blend the traditional Guru-Shishya (teacher-student) approach with a personalized, nurturing environment to make this beautiful art form accessible to everyone. I work to create a supportive space where students feel free to explore, learn, and grow in their dance journey.

Teaching Techniques & Methods
I focus on teaching Odissi with authenticity, emphasizing foundational postures, expressions, and storytelling. Every class includes core exercises for flexibility and strength, followed by practice in bhangi (postures) and mudras (hand gestures). My method balances traditional techniques with body conditioning and musical rhythm to deepen students' understanding of the dance form.

Class Structure
Each session begins with a warm-up, followed by practice in footwork (padabheda), body stances (chouka and tribhangi), and eye and neck movements to build grace and coordination. We move on to exploring abhinaya (expressive storytelling), where students learn to convey emotions through facial expressions. We also delve into the nuances of Odissi music to help students develop rhythm and timing. Every class concludes with a cool-down, encouraging reflection and reinforcing techniques learned.

My approach is rooted in empathy, patience, and a deep respect for each student’s unique learning pace. I prioritize discipline and consistency but also ensure classes are engaging and joyful.
