About Cassie
I am an avid reader and passionate about equitable education. I am empathetic with students and meet them where they are. I am always happy to adapt lesson plans and find ways to incorporate interests and activities into reading. I have worked with students of many different backgrounds and life circumstances. I am trained in Orton-Gillingham method reading tutoring and use the Institute of Multi-Sensory Education's model as a basis for my lessons. I am versed in working on phonological awareness, phonemes, graphemes, fluency, spelling, and reading comprehension. I am able to perform basic assessments such as the Phonological Awareness Skills Test to understand student's skills and growth. I have excellent data-recording skills and cater lessons specifically to student needs. A typical lesson plan will depend on the age of the student and where they are in their phonological understanding. My most common lesson plan consists of:
-starting off with letter flashcards for students to say the sound for
-letter writing in sand or a tactile medium based on the sound they hear
-introducing a new letter sound or concept
-practice with writing and identifying the sound
-practicing high frequency words/sight words
-reading a printed decodable book, which the student is free to keep
