About Lydia

As a high school senior, I am an experienced pianist with 15 years of playing and 5 years of teaching both privately and in group settings. I have trained in classical piano, music theory, and performance, allowing me to guide students with a structured yet flexible approach. My teaching adapts to each student’s needs, whether they are preparing for exams like ABRSM and RCM or learning for personal enjoyment. I emphasize both technical precision and musical expression, helping students build confidence and a deep appreciation for music. My goal is to create a supportive learning environment where students can develop their skills while enjoying the process.

About the lesson

For students on a professional track, I focus on technique with scales, arpeggios, and Hanon exercises, alongside music theory and sight-reading for a strong foundation. Repertoire includes classical pieces from Bach, Mozart, and Chopin, refining phrasing, dynamics, and expression. I also train students in ear training and performance skills, preparing them for ABRSM, RCM, and competitions.

For students learning as a hobby, I make lessons engaging by teaching favorite songs, chord-based playing, and improvisation. I incorporate playing by ear and basic music theory to build confidence while keeping lessons fun. My goal is to help students enjoy music while developing strong, adaptable skills.

Lydia is a wonderful family friend of mine, and I can assure you that Lydia is an exceptional teacher and caretaker! I have three children—triplets—and she has been incredibly helpful in supporting my kids' learning, especially in mathematics. The oldest of my children is also learning piano from her, and my second oldest triplet is being tutored in Chinese by Lydia as well. She is extremely talented, often switching teaching styles to match each child's learning style and attention span. Besides her skills in teaching academic subjects and musical understanding, she also does an excellent job of instilling good habits in her students. My kids have started journaling and have even learned better manners from her! An excellent girl!
