About Eleanor
Hi! My name is Eleanor, and I'm a dedicated SEN tutor with a passion for helping students with special educational needs reach their full potential. Highly qualified, with a wealth of experience and a supportive approach, I'm here to provide personalised learning support that celebrates each student's unique strengths and abilities. My Story: Why I Teach My journey in special education started over fifteen years ago when I volunteered in a school for severe and complex special educational needs. This experience touched my heart in ways I never thought possible, and I knew right then that I wanted to dedicate my life to making a difference in the lives of young people with unique needs. Since then, my passion for teaching has taken me on incredible adventures, including teaching as a specialised SEN teacher in Moscow, Russia. What truly fuels my passion for teaching is the joy and connection I experience with my students. I love teaching because I get to have fun with my students, sharing laughter and excitement as we explore new ideas and concepts together. I also get deeply invested in their growth and wellbeing, celebrating their successes and supporting them through challenges. Seeing my students thrive and knowing that I've played a role in their journey is what makes teaching so incredibly rewarding for me. My Experience: With 15 years of experience working with SEN students, I've had the opportunity to wear many hats – from learning mentor to classroom teacher, specialist support teacher, and private tutor. This diverse background has given me a deep understanding of the complexities of SEN and the importance of tailored support. I've worked with students with a range of SEN needs, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and more. I've also had the opportunity to collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to develop comprehensive support plans. My Qualifications: - PGCE in primary education (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) - Qualified Teacher Status - Master's in Special and Additional Learning Needs

How I Teach: My teaching style is centred around: - Getting to know students: I take the time to understand each learner's needs, interests, and learning style. - Making learning fun: I incorporate games, activities, and real-life examples to make learning engaging and enjoyable for students. - Using tech to our advantage: I use assistive technology and digital tools to help learners access learning materials and stay organised. - Celebrating small wins: I focus on progress, no matter how small, and celebrate achievements along the way. Lesson Length: Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, but can be adjusted depending on the needs of the learners. The goal is to ensure that students are comfortable and able to focus, allowing for the most effective use of our time together. How I Can Help: My SEN lessons are designed for students who: - Need extra support with academics - Have EHCPs or SEN support plans - Require accommodations or adjustments to access learning - Want to build confidence and self-advocacy skills Some examples of how I can support students include: - Creating visual aids to support learning and memory - Providing assistive technology training to enhance accessibility - Building confidence and self-advocacy skills - Improving executive functioning skills, such as: - Planning and prioritisation - Task initiation and completion - Self-regulation and self-monitoring - Working memory and recall - Organisation and time management - Enhancing communication skills, such as: - Articulating thoughts and needs - Active listening and comprehension - Initiating and maintaining conversations - Developing assertiveness and self-expression If you're looking for a supportive and understanding SEN tutor, I'm here to help. Please feel free to reach out to discuss your child's needs. I offer free informal consultations for parents/carers and trial lessons to ensure you're getting the services you need.
