About Louis
My name is Louis Griffin, I am a professional vocalist and actor located in NYC and have coached students throughout my career. I’ve recently just gotten off tour and am looking to expand my coaching offerings to pass on what I’ve learned through my own training and professional experience and to further explore the craft I love with dedicated students. My background is in musical theater, I graduated from the prestigious University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) Musical Theater department in 2017. There, I was mentored by voice pathologist Dr. Wendy LeBorgne, author of The Vocal Athlete. Dr. Wendy helped me to understand the voice on an anatomic level and taught me to train the voice the same way we train the other muscles in our body. This broke open a world of opportunity in my own vocal training. This perspective and understanding allowed me to communicate more concretely the issues I was facing, and helped me to find solutions for them. I'm a huge proponent of SOVT (semi-occluded vocal training) and use straw work with all of my students and for my own practice throughout my career. While at school, I also worked for the University as an accompanying pianist for my fellow student's voice lessons. This gave me the unique opportunity to observe multiple teaching styles from many different professors on our voice faculty and helped to further expand my understanding of the voice. It also definitely helped with my piano chops. Since graduating, I’ve worked as an actor on multiple national tours, television, Off-Broadway, and in regional theaters across the country. I consider myself an actor first and always approach material from a story-first perspective, asking how the voice and body can further support the storytelling in a sustainable way. I take all these experiences and perspectives into the studio with me when I teach. I meet students where they are at, find the approach that resonates best for them, and give them concrete goals, tasks, and practice directives. I've found through my multi-faceted, hybrid, artistic/scientific approach, the voice becomes demystified and we can begin to see a lot of progress in a short amount of time.

My background is in musical theater, I graduated from the prestigious University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) Musical Theater department in 2017 where I was awarded the Laurie Beechman award in recognition of achievement in voice. There, I was mentored by voice pathologist Dr. Wendy LeBorgne, author of The Vocal Athlete. Dr. Wendy helped me to understand the voice on an anatomic level and taught me to train the voice the same way we train the other muscles in our body. This broke open a world of opportunity in my vocal training and helped me communicate more concretely issues I was facing, and helped me to find solutions for them. While at school, I worked for the University as an accompanist for my fellow student's voice lessons. This gave me the opportunity to observe multiple teaching styles from many different professors on our voice faculty and helped to further expand my understanding of the voice. It also definitely helped with my piano chops. Since graduating, I’ve worked as an actor on multiple national tours, television, Off-Broadway, and in regional theaters across the country. I consider myself an actor first and always approach the material from a story-first perspective, asking how my voice and body can further support the storytelling in a sustainable way. I’ve played piano since a child, have read music since I could read English and would love to help you with all your music needs.
