About Paula

I am an experienced Psychology teacher with over 18 years of classroom experience teaching GCSE and A-level students. I enjoy helping students make sense of a subject that can sometimes feel overwhelming and supporting them to build confidence in their understanding and exam skills.

Through my teaching and experience marking exam papers, I have developed a clear understanding of how exam questions are assessed and where students can gain or lose marks. I use this insight to help students structure their answers more effectively and approach exam questions with greater confidence.

Alongside my teaching work, I am currently training as a counsellor. This has strengthened my listening skills and my focus on creating a calm and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and working through areas they find difficult.

Psychology is a subject I genuinely enjoy teaching, and I particularly like helping students see how the different topics connect together. With clear explanations and the right guidance, most students can make much more progress in the subject than they initially expect.

About the lesson

My lessons focus on helping students understand Psychology clearly while developing the exam skills needed to achieve strong GCSE and A-level results. Many students find the subject challenging because of the volume of studies, research methods and the need to apply knowledge in longer written answers. I work with students to break these areas down into manageable steps so that they feel more confident and organised in their thinking.

Sessions are tailored to each student’s needs. This might include revising key studies, improving essay structure, practising exam questions or strengthening understanding of research methods and data analysis. I often use past paper questions and structured guidance to help students understand how marks are awarded and how to improve their answers.

I aim to create a calm and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and developing their confidence with the subject. Whether a student needs ongoing support through the course or targeted help before exams, lessons focus on building understanding, improving exam technique and helping them feel more in control of their learning.
