About Amy
I have taught for 19 years and I love helping students to access learning a subject in a way that works for them. I know how important education in my subjects is for helping critical thinking and deep thinking about the world around us and I want to share these skills with my students.
Having been an examiner for a long period of time, this helps me to show my students how to get the grades they are working towards and watching their progress over time is so rewarding.

I have been Head of Subject in an Outstanding school for the last 19 years. I currently teach AQA Religious Studies and specialise in Christianity and Buddhism. I also teach Sociology with the AQA exam board. I have taught the EDEXCEL and OCR specifications in the past and have been an examiner for the last 7 years, I have all the most recent textbooks and tried and tested resources. I will be able to go through past exam questions, mark-schemes to show them extra knowledge and techniques to secure top level marks in their responses. Being able to see model answers often gives students confidence in their work and enables them to see how to improve.
Every lesson we will start with 5 knowledge questions to re-cap their learning from the next lesson, have some input about their new topic, try an exam question, and then look at model answers for the question. If this structure needs amending to suit the needs of your child, I am happy to be flexible. I will use relevant and recent examples from the world today to help students understand how the subject relates to the world around them and extend their knowledge from existing textbooks and worksheets. We will do `live` marking together in the subsequent lesson so that they get instant feedback on the work and can understand exactly how examiners such as myself will view their work and allocate marks. Understanding this process really helps students to take ownership of their work and enjoy small successes each week.
I have been a tutor for the past 5 years and find it an exciting way to support students with their learning in a more personal and developed way. I enjoy setting my pupils exam-style questions in each lesson and giving feedback the following week by providing individual targets and actions including modelling answers and correcting any misunderstandings that are present in their work.
If you are neurodivergent and need a different structure to the lessons, I will always be happy to accommodate your needs and work at a pace that feels manageable.
My lessons are typically an hour long and are for ages 14-19. If you are doing an early-entry for GCSE in year 10, I can also support you. I work during the school holidays and can give additional lessons if needed during mock-exam periods.
