An experienced reading specialist who has helped struggling readers from beginning readers to adults wanting to improve their skills.

Methodology

In the first few lessons, I get the know the student and what he or she is interested in. I can administer a battery of standardized assessments to help identify academic strengths and weaknesses. Then, I craft a plan designed to get the student from where they are to where they need to be using researched-based, hands-on strategies. Whenever possible, I use the student's interests and strengths to motivate and encourage as we work on academic skills which need to be improved.

Background

I have helped hundreds of struggling readers for more than 15 years. My masters is in reading. In Texas and Colorado, I hold valid teaching certificates in elementary and reading. In addition, I have taught students reading at the secondary and collegiate levels.
