About Graeme

I am a UK Registered Nurse with 17 years of clinical experience, including over 10 years working in Emergency Care and five years in a senior Emergency Department leadership role. I currently work as a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner and Independent Nurse Prescriber within a busy NHS Emergency Department.

I am currently completing a Master's in Advanced Clinical Practice and have completed postgraduate modules in advanced consultation and clinical decision-making, including formulating differential diagnoses, as well as independent and supplementary prescribing. This has built on my extensive emergency nursing experience and further developed my knowledge of history taking, physical examination, clinical assessment, diagnostic investigations and clinical decision-making.

My emergency-care background also includes training in Advanced Life Support (ALS), Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) and Newborn Life Support (NLS), alongside extensive practical experience caring for acutely unwell and deteriorating adult and paediatric patients, including medical and surgical emergencies, trauma and resuscitation.

Throughout my career I have supported student nurses, newly qualified nurses and experienced colleagues through teaching, mentoring, clinical supervision and practical learning in the workplace. Having also worked in senior nursing leadership, I understand the challenges nurses face as they develop their knowledge, confidence and decision-making in clinical practice.

I aim to provide a relaxed and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and discussing areas they find difficult. My focus is on helping learners understand the reasoning behind clinical practice and develop the confidence to apply their knowledge to real patient situations.

About the lesson

My lessons are aimed at student nurses, newly qualified nurses and registered nurses who want to develop their clinical knowledge, practical skills and confidence.

I use a practical, supportive approach to teaching, drawing on over 17 years of nursing experience and more than 10 years working in Emergency Care. Where appropriate, I use realistic clinical scenarios to help learners apply their knowledge rather than simply memorising information. We can work through patient assessment, prioritisation, recognising red flags, clinical reasoning and decision-making in a way that reflects real clinical practice.

Sessions can also be tailored towards OSCE preparation, clinical skills, emergency and acute care, history taking and physical assessment, or areas of nursing that an individual learner would like additional support with.

I currently work as a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner and Independent Nurse Prescriber in an NHS Emergency Department. I previously spent five years in senior Emergency Department leadership and have extensive experience supporting, teaching and mentoring nurses and students in clinical practice.

Lessons will typically last 60 minutes and will be adapted to the learner's level, experience and individual goals.
