About Koos

I have nearly 20 years of experience in formal training and academic instruction. During this period, I served as Head of the Soil Laboratory at Potchefstroom University for 10 years, where I worked closely with consultants in the cut flower industry, horticulture, and sports field management.
I possess extensive expertise in fertiliser recommendations from a soil science perspective, with a strong focus on optimising nutrient management for diverse agricultural systems. In 1989, I was appointed as a Research Assistant to Professor Dale Baker at Penn State University, USA, where I also successfully completed a postgraduate course in Soil Environmental Chemistry. My work during this time focused primarily on environmental aspects of soil science.
I later held the position of Principal Agricultural Scientist at the Lowveld College of Agriculture, where I lectured in tobacco production and served as Head of Agronomy. In this role, I supervised academic staff responsible for teaching key crops including cotton, sugarcane, and table grapes.
Since 2006, I have worked as an independent agricultural consultant, advising farmers on fertilisation strategies for subtropical crops, vegetables, and hydroponically grown crops and flowers. In addition, I have successfully formulated more than 30 fertilisers and related products.
I enjoy sharing my knowledge although I am 71 years old, I have way too much energy to sit doing nothing.

About the lesson

Since I am an Afrikaans native speaker, I struggled myself during my study years because study materials are in English and whenever you need to do a presentation of your research or write a publication, it has to be in English. This applies for academics all over the world. I know the pitfalls in this process, and I can help you to overcome it, no matter what your native language is. I am a qualified TEFL teacher and have therefore, resources to help you achieving your goals, whether it is pronunciation, grammar, tenses, speaking, or whatever problems you have with English. Remember, never try to change your accent. All you need to do is to make sure that you are understood and to understand what English speakers are saying.
