About Melissa
I have been teaching Spanish for 28 years and I have a proven track record of success. I have studied Spanish in Madrid, Salamanca and Barcelona, Spain. From 2013 to 2016 I lived and worked in Barcelona, Spain. While in Spain, I taught both Spanish and ESL to children, young adults as well as business and medical professionals. My teaching philosophy is rather eclectic and incorporates various methodologies and procedures. I follow the philosophy of linguist innovator Stephen Krashen... I strive to create an immersive and engaging classroom where students acquire language organically—through stories, conversation, and exposure to authentic materials. Krashen’s Input Hypothesis underscores my belief that learners progress most effectively when they understand the language they hear or read, slightly beyond their current ability. Therefore, I provide rich and varied input that challenges students while remaining accessible. I travel to Spain each year and I incorporate authentic materials into my lessons - from traditional textbooks to realia to Black Cat readers. traditional textbooks to grammar tutorials to Black Cat Readers.
