About Julia

Hi! I’m Julia Macias, a junior at Boston University studying Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I have extensive tutoring experience, starting with high school students preparing to transition to college, helping them navigate lecture material, study strategies, and academic workflows. Currently, I tutor Organic Chemistry and have also tutored Biology, General Chemistry, and related STEM subjects. My teaching approach is personalized and student-centered. I focus on understanding each student’s learning style, helping them build a strong foundation, and then guiding them to tackle more complex concepts. I emphasize critical thinking and problem-solving, encouraging students to reason through material and apply it creatively rather than just memorizing facts. With my experience leading workshops and one-on-one sessions, I’m confident in creating lessons that are flexible, engaging, and tailored to individual needs. My goal is not only to help students succeed academically but also to build their confidence, curiosity, and independent learning skills, setting them up for long-term success in STEM courses. About the lesson

I provide personalized, student-centered tutoring in chemistry, biology, and other STEM subjects for high school and college-level students. My approach focuses on building strong foundational knowledge before tackling more advanced topics, helping students connect concepts across subjects rather than just memorizing isolated facts. Each session typically begins by reviewing areas where the student faces challenges, then branches out to related principles and underlying fundamentals to ensure a deeper, long-lasting understanding.

I emphasize active learning and critical thinking, guiding students to discover solutions themselves rather than simply giving answers. By encouraging students to reason through problems and apply concepts to new situations, I help them reach higher levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy (analyzing, evaluating, and creating) so they are prepared for exams, lab work, and real-world scientific reasoning.

Lessons are structured yet flexible: we review challenging topics, work through examples, discuss conceptual connections, and practice applying knowledge to problem-solving exercises. Beyond academics, I also provide mentorship by supporting students’ study strategies, confidence, and overall approach to learning.

What sets me apart is my combination of hands-on lab and research experience with a strong background in peer teaching and mentoring, allowing me to make complex STEM topics accessible, engaging, and relevant. My goal is not just to help students succeed in a course but to foster curiosity, independent thinking, and long-term academic growth.
