About Ramisa

One of the things I love doing is to help people foster a love of education and learning. For two years, I’ve been volunteering as an English tutor for English year 6 pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds, and it’s been an incredibly rewarding experience. I currently work as a Year 7 TA. I strive for equity when working with students. I deeply value education, and I want to help others do well. Of course, this also involves the student taking on a proactive role, but I always strive to deliver quality lessons to all of my students. I believe that I have the ability to help you do well in English, even if it might be your least favourite subject at school! In my spare time, I love to write as well as read books and watch films.

1. My Approach to Teaching I believe that identifying the pupil’s strengths and weaknesses is crucial to improve academic results. In order to determine this, I usually ask tutees to show me their recent test/exam results from English class as well as the feedback they received from peers or teachers. I then go from there by focusing on the areas in which the tutee is struggling. This works with primary school, secondary school and A Level pupils. For undergraduates, I can assist with correct referencing and citations, as well as improving the overall academic tone and use of written language for your essays. I help with avoiding plagiarism in your work and how to effectively paraphrase ideas and concepts. This also applies to dissertation planning and writing as I’ve recently finished my dissertation in which I received an A grade. But the key thing to remember is that I encourage you to take a hands-on approach to learning. This means that if I assign you a brief exercise to complete alongside your school and uni work (usually this takes less than an hour to complete), then you should try your best to complete it. Also, I encourage my tutees to ask me as many questions as they need to. Don’t feel shy! I’m here to help after all~ 2. Duration of Lessons My lessons usually last between 1 and 2 hours, but this can be increased upon the tutee’s request. The number of lessons required depends entirely on the rate at which you start to see improvements in your work at school/uni. 3. My Qualifications and Experience For 2 years, I have volunteered as an English tutor for year 6 pupils with Action Tutoring. I’ve been fortunate enough to see the increased confidence and improved academic profile of my tutees, which then in turn helped them achieve great results for their SATs. I have also tutored English language to an undergraduate student for one year, which luckily made the tutee feel very assured and well-supported with their studies. 4. Who my lessons are for My lessons are for primary school pupils aged 5-11, secondary school pupils aged 11-16, A Level pupils studying English Language as well as undergraduates studying a degree in English language and/or linguistics.
