About Jenn

I was born and raised in beautiful Colorado Springs and love everything about it. My favorite color is blue. My favorite team is the Denver Broncos. My favorite sport is soccer. and my favorite food is anything Mexican.

I played soccer at the varsity level for 4 years and went on to play for the Olympic Development Team and at CU-Boulder. I also played volleyball and basketball.

My passion for teaching and coaching started in high school when I coached my siblings' soccer teams. It developed into a degree in physical education and health and my first career started in Physical education. I started 2 high school soccer programs that exist to this day. I went on to teach classes in life skills such as organization, taking notes and study skills, taking tests, and advocating for themselves with their teachers by asking questions. The goal was to help students "DO SCHOOL" and move on to their life path whether college, trades, or military. I believe each student can learn even the most challenging topics. I use multiple learning styles to reach each student at their level to help them move forward. It is my passion to reach each individual and help them create and reach their personal goals.

About the lesson

My lessons are fun and will meet each individual at their level. I believe establishing a relationship with each individual is critical to future learning. I start a conversation about the things they like (games, hobbies, subjects, free time). I start asking about what they see being their weaknesses and strengths. What they struggle with and what they excel at. I then dig into the curriculum they are learning and evaluate where their level of understanding is. We'll set goals together for future learning, short and long term.

What sets me apart from other tutors is that I can teach anything as long as I have the curriculum. I make sure the individual feels comfortable with the daily learning with multiple checks for understanding (Give me Five) and conversations. It is important to have an investment in their growth and comfort with the material they are learning.

My lessons are focused on middle and high school students in any subject except foreign languages or advanced math. I believe in helping students understand how "to do" school through organization, taking notes and what to do with them, how to do homework and studying, and advocating for themselves with their teacher by asking questions
