About Sue

I have worked in private, charter, and public education! I founded and supervised a private school for 10 years. In addition to teaching, tutoring has been a hobby for me, especially in math and elementary reading. I am self motivated and determined!

About the lesson

First, I believe, in my core, that EVERY student can learn and be successful when his/her surroundings meet the individual’s social, emotional, and intellectual needs. All students need a structured, safe, and encouraging environment to maximize learning potential.

Second, when provided with a learning environment that focuses on the whole child, students need to understand every choice has a consequence (positive or negative). In this climate, students are free to make mistakes, but are expected to learn from the mistakes. This leads to self reliance and a positive self image.

Third, a teacher creates a classroom that promotes a love of learning that supports each child. Each child is the center of the educational process and proceeds according to his/her ability level. Teachers create learning activities that revolve around the students’ needs, which promotes independence and accountability. Students are provided with hands on activities and stations/centers are available for additional learning.

Finally, parents need to be readily and eagerly involved in schools. Reaching a child’s greatest potential requires a team: the student, the teacher/school, and the parent. Each member of the team is equally responsible for the child’s education. Communication between the team are frequent and focused on what is best for the child.
