About Scott
I am a former college English grammar professor who studied technical writing in graduate school and wanted to become a technical writer in real life. That dream became true in 2017 when I got hired by a Fortune 30 energy company. I went on to work for a Fortune 500 electrical power company, the Fortune 30 energy company again, and an internationally famous Fortune 500 IT company. Along the way, I learned the "real" business English and technical communications used in the corporate world that even I as a former technical writing professor didn't know more than 10 years ago. So, I can teach you the "real-world" business English and technical communication skills you need to be a successful professional or interact with successful professionals for business networking purposes. I can also teach you how to create very professional and effective presentations, whether that's in PowerPoint or using some other software. I can surely teach you how to create great graphics for those presentations as well!

I work with students on the challenges that they will face or are facing in either learning the business English to get a job or to succeed in the job they have. I teach students the skills they need to navigate through those challenges. Those include basic language skills -- such as using proper grammar and choosing the best words -- but also document design skills, such as how to arrange the content of a message (email, memo, product summary, PowerPoint presentation) in the most effective way. Included in those document design lessons are the CRAP design principles -- Contrast, Repetition, Alignment and Proximity -- that can apply to creating text and graphics or mixing text and graphics. Surprisingly, CRAP is something that not even some professional video animators know or user interface (UI) designers know. But you will after studying with me!
