About Regan

Hello! My name is Regan Andringa-Seed and I am a third-year student at Northwestern University majoring in Neuroscience and Spanish. I graduated as a Valedictorian from high school having taken 12 AP classes. I love science (especially neuroscience) and helping other people better understand the world around us!

I currently work as a paid Peer-Guided Study Group leader. In this role I lead group tutoring sessions for Northwestern's introductory biology course sequence (genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, evolution, and biochemistry). I worked as a paid tutor for Clinical Teaching Tutors for 1.5 years, working with middle school and high school students in Spanish, math (through precalculus), AP biology, SAT prep, environmental science, and chemistry. I also worked as a volunteer tutor for elementary school students in reading and math for 3 years, tutoring bilingually in English and Spanish.

I speak English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

I've always loved kids, and I began working with them as a summer camp counselor at Morehead Planetarium and Carolina Friends School summer camps. I realized that I really enjoyed doing science experiments with campers and helping them to learn while having fun, so I began tutoring, first in a volunteer role and then eventually as a paid job.

High school diploma: Graduated Valedictorian with a 4.0 Unweighted GPA, took 12 AP Classes (AP English Literature (score of 5), AP English Language (5), AP Spanish Language, AP Spanish Literature, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Environmental Science, AP Human Geography, AP Statistics, AP Calculus BC, AP World History, AP US History)

College: Pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience and Spanish at Northwestern University, anticipated graduation 2023. GPA: 3.95

Took SAT, score of 1570 and ACT, score of 36.

About the lesson

I typically begin my asking students where they feel like they're struggling in a particular topic, accompanied by my own assessment of their weak points as we work through practice problems together. I then gather appropriate supplemental resources to help them in their studying. I generally believe that if the resources they're given in class are already not helpful, it isn't the best use of our time to keep reviewing those items, so I try to find distinct materials for our review and practice.

I've worked with students aged 4-21 through the various tutoring positions that I've held. I have experience working with students with neurodevelopmental disorders and learning disabilities such as ADHD and dyslexia. I have experience working with students with a limited knowledge of English, who are primarily Spanish speakers.
