About Sabina

Thank you for considering working with me! I have been working in the theatre for almost 20 years as a director, actor, producer and educator.

Acting is a way of life, the stories we tell in the theatre and/or onscreen is a wonderful and powerful way to learn about ourselves and others. I use an individual approach when working with each student, to discover their unique voice and strengths. We can explore audition preparation, scene work, vocal enhancement, improv, fear of public speaking, physical training, on camera work and more. I also provide tips and resource material for performers who are facing the everyday stress of living the artist life and are in need of self-care. This is extremely useful when facing challenging roles and/or in between jobs.

I find great joy in exploring the human experience through story. Having taught theatre in the classroom, workshops and one on one for almost 20 years I never stop learning from my students. My work with others enhances my own passion in my craft and I do believe that the work of the actor has the power to change the world. I've challenged myself to earn a Master's in Fine Arts in Acting and now work as a professional actor. Sharing what I've discovered, learned and felt throughout my journey as an artist is what brings meaning to my craft. Nothing makes me happier than to see a student or colleague find joy in discovering their talent, excitement and love of performing.

I have enjoyed learning since I was in school. I used to get discarded teacher's manuals and workbooks and create lesson plans. As I went through undergraduate school I started taking educational classes, specifically theater education. I then began working with a local theater company and created their outreach curriculum. From there I worked as a subsitute teacher and then enrolled in a certification program where I received credit while teaching in the classroom.

I have worked in theatre for over 17 years, 6 of which have been as a professional Union actor.

I hold an MA in Special Education with a concentration in Gifted/Twice-Exceptional learners.

I taught middle school for 5 years.

I hold a Master's in Fine Arts with a concentration in Acting

About the lesson

I take the lead from my client, because where we go with our lessons depends on what they are seeking. I will first chat with the client, and/or their parents if they are younger, to discuss a plan and an idea of the outsome they are seeking. I use exercises that warm-up the body, the mind and the voice. I also receive e-mails and can do skype/google hangout/Facetime when clients are on the road or if I am out of town performing.

I have worked with 5-6 year olds in storytelling and movement.

7-15 year olds in playwrigthing, acting, dancing and poetry.

High School students in Community organizing, Playbuilding, poetry and self-confidence training.

And I have worked with College-Adult aged clients in theatrical productions, audition prep, vocal training, ensemble work and self-care.

Always go with your instincts, research that teacher and see if you can find information online about the work they do. Read their profile carefully to see if they focus on the services you need and most important if you are not comfortable with that person after a first meeting find someone else. Acting can bring about many vulnerable and heavy emotions and you must feel that you are in a safe space!

Recently I was a judge for the Southern California Drama Teacher's organization where I spent 12 hours watching Middle School and HIgh School students compete in a Shakespeare Competition. It was thrilling!

Details

I accept payment through Venmo or Cash and require payment made up front before the session begins.

1 hour session are $35

2 hour (or more) sessions are $25 an hour.

Skype/GoogleHangout/Facetime sessions are set at one hour and are $25
