About Anthony

In 2011 I began a career as an Acting Teacher at Union City High School in Union City, NJ. I spent the following six years at the school educating young aspiring actors and preparing them for careers within the business. Aside from teaching a variety of acting classes and directing plays, musicals, and mounting numerous original works, a large amount of my time was dedicated to coaching those students that were seeking acceptance to performing arts schools. With great success, I was able to help my students gain entry to a variety of elite performing arts schools ranging from Montclair State University to NYU's Tisch School!

I can focus sessions and workshops on specific areas of acting such as monologue preparation, scene work, character development, ensemble building techniques, and more.

As a coach and director I strive for truthful and honest work from my actors.

During my time teaching, there was nothing more rewarding than seeing the growth and success of my students. It's all in the process. I don't mind if you are completely new to the world of acting or if you have been doing it for years, there is always room for new discovery and creative growth. Being able to see students access their most honest and truthful selves is the goal.

I studied theatre throughout high school and college and it has been my passion ever since. I was so incredibly inspired by my teachers and professors that I felt like I needed to give back. The feeling of watching an acting student grow and develop is such a rewarding feeling. So gradually, after graduating college, I found my way into a high school setting and built up my own theatre program.

I am a certified Teacher of Theatre. I recieved my certification in 2011. I have taught theatre at Union City High School in NJ for six years. I have directed nineteen shows during my time there. I have successfully coached college-bound seniors for their Theatre and Musical Theatre auditions and many received entry to renowned Theatre programs including such schools as Montclair State University, NYU's Tisch, and many others.

About the lesson

I form my lessons around my student's need. There are so many things an actor might be setting up a lesson for, that I'm not sure I can answer this question very specfically. Areas a student might need help with are: monologue work, scene work, character building, audition prep. For larger groups you may want to focus on things such as ensemble building exercises or movement based exercises.

I have work with primarily with teenagers and young adults. Teaching in an urban district I have worked with a diverse group of students of all ages, ethnicities, sexual preference, religious beliefs, etc. I celebrate individuality. I have also worked with varied experience levels. I have worked with students that have never acted a day in their lives to students that have been studying the craft for years!

I think a lot of people care more about the money, and provide mediocre safe training. I am down to earth, I level with you, I'm real. For years I worked with all different types of students that were at all different types of levels of talent and knowledge. I don't sugar coat things. I prepare you for the professional world of the arts. I put you first. I think when a teacher puts the student first and is true and honest with them, and wants their success just as much as the student does, that's a strong teacher.

Many of my fondest moments have been being there as one of my students receives their acceptance email from an acting program/school. Being able to see the result of the hours and hours of prep and rehearsals, and the years of working together, culminate in that one emotion-filled moment, nothing feels better than that.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I am able to work with my students at different points in their acting career. Maybe you just want to prep a little before an audition for your school's play, maybe you are preparing for college auditions, maybe you want some help building your character...whatever it may be, come to me with that objective. I want you to get the most out of your time together with me. Know what you want to achieve by the end of our lesson, and I will do everything I can to help you get there.

Details

I currently charge $20 per hour. If you would like to have a group lesson, it remains $20 per student and I will add a half hour for each additional student.
