About Tom

I have taught a combination of Physics, Math and Science Electives including Engineering, Robotics, Astronomy, 3D design among others from the Middle School to AP level over the last 15 years. While teaching AP courses my students averaged over a 4 on their exams.

During this time I have always enjoyed helping students reach their potential and pushing them to suceeed to their best ability. I have also coached every year over my 15 years, encouraging students growth as athletes and whole people.

After college I began teaching and coaching high school and have been doing it ever since.

I majored in Physics and Economics in college, taking many high level mathematics courses along the way. I also minored in education. Since then I have been teaching math and science primarily at the high school level but also some middle school classes. I am currently teaching calculus, physics and engineering.

A new student must first be consulted individually to find their strenghts and areas of improvement. Once these can be established the appropriate approach can begin to be used to help the student turn their weaknesses into areas of strength. During this process it is very important to know and relate to the student as an individual to establish a personal connection.

I have worked with students who have gone on to Ivy League Schools and Stanford, ones who have attended state colleges as well as students who need to pass a course to stay eligible for sports. All work is tailored to the students needs to be successful.

First make sure the teacher they are looking for is familiar with the content they need help in. A teacher who does not know the material can cause more confusion than help understanding what is going on. A good relationship is next. The student must feel comfortable working with their tutor and asking questions.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The first thing students need to think about is what their needs are. Where are they confused? What do they need help with? Once they can recognize their areas that need help improving, time with a tutor can then be used most efficiently to address those problem areas.
