About Alana

I have been tutoring since 2015, when I first started work at a primary school as a learning support assistant after completing my degree in Psychology. I have worked with a range of ages and mental and physical abilities. I have taught whole classes, children in groups as big as 15, and 1-to-1 teaching as well.
I have helped boost children achieving below average, to receiving results or attaining an on average/above average level.
I have taught to English to non-native speakers, the youngest of which was a 3 year old child in Spain and hold a TEFL qualification.

About the lesson

I give lessons in Maths and English from 4-12 years old. I have previously worked with year 6 students completing their SAT's. I also give lessons up to degree level in Psychology, up to KS3 in Science, KS4 in Biology and A-level assistance in Law.

I am extremely patient and find that children who are lacking confidence in their learning abilities are drawn to me, as one of primary focuses in all my teaching is confidence; so that the child can go on to be a more able and successful independent learner. I also find that I work well with children who learn best through unorthodox methods; a lot of schools today expect all children to attain knowledge through the same methods, but in my experience this isn't a realistic of practical expectation. While working with my students, my primary aim is to find the best way for them, as individual, to absorb and understand the necessary material

My methods are quite straight forward. My lessons start with a quick recap/exercise on the previous topic or homework if set, then onto introduction and explanation of the current topic, followed by tasks and activities that gradually increase in difficulty, checking the students understanding along the way (even if they are getting things correct). The final task or homework task (if set) will usually involve the student creating a task with the new knowledge or being given a less rigid, more creative task in order to apply what they've just learn't and cement it in their heads for the future.

The prices specified for multiple hours purchased up front applies to lessons held in your home. The savings for online lessons are;
For 5 hours £55
For 10 hours £100

The price for English lessons (EFL/ESOL) or KS1/2 Maths will depend on the age and level of the student but start at £11 an hour online.

Travel within a 4 mile radius of HA0/Wembley Central Station is included, anything beyond that will be charged an extra 0.25p per mile each way.
