About Jackie
As a sophomore in Elementary Education, I am passionate about education and helping students succeed. I have been a volunteer tutor in the past, and I worked with a third grade student in math and reading and helped another student in fifth, sixth, and seventh grade in math. In addition to tutoring, I have also been a camp counselor for four summers, have had teaching experience in Elementary Schools, and am actively involved in organizations at college.
I enjoy serving as a mentor and supporting students so that they are able to succeed in, and out of, the classroom. I love being able to teach students about a wide range of subjects and help them as they experience those "lightbulb moments" of understanding new, and old, material.
I am a sophomore majoring in Elementary Education at Purdue University with minors in Psychology and Global Studies. Preparing to be an Elementary teacher has equipped me with a wide range of instructional strategies and resources that I can use while teaching and tutoring. I have also tutored students in the past, most notably I tutored a student for three years (5th-7th grade) in math and another student in third grade in reading and math. Along with tutoring, I have also been a camp counselor at a day camp for four summers.

When working with a new student, it is important to first establish a relationship with the student and tutor, and also the student's family. Developing this connection allows for me, as the tutor, to get to know the student better in order to understand their current progress, help set goals, and create an instructional plan. Additionally, ensuring that the student is comfortable with the process is critical so that they are best prepared to learn.
