  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I have been doing private tutoring since 2017, when I tutored two 14-year-old students at home during my semester break.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I am tutoring Malay subjects for primary and secondary school students, as well as for a few foreigners. The topics I like to discuss with my students are vocabulary and grammar. However, what I like a little less is the time I spend sharing my knowledge; I have to translate Malay to English.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, I did. He is a very dedicated teacher who taught me during my primary school years. He also has been such a role model for me, as he is not only good at teaching but also a disciplined teacher at the same time. I was inspired by his teaching style, which is very strict but loving.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

I think to be a qualified tutor, we have to be patient, committed, disciplined, and know how to attract our students to study with us.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I was very active from primary school until university, where I was selected to participate in many language-related competitions. The most memorable moment in my life was winning second place in the district-level Malay Speech Competition during primary school and being the best debater during university.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

The difficulty or challenge that I faced or still face in Malay subjects is about time constraints and difficulty speaking and understanding non-Malay students in Malay. The time that my students and I spend during class is about 1 to 2 hours a week, which is a short time to share a lot of knowledge. However, I try to manage this difficulty by wisely adjusting the time and trying to teach non-Malay and foreign students as slowly as possible.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Yes, I do. I prefer to teach elements of the subject, ranging from basic to challenging, to ensure my students' true understanding of the content.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

A deep motivation, passion and support from friends and family to empower the Malay language among Malaysians and introduce the mother tongue to foreigners is my first priority.
